Wheat Germ Oil

Wheatgerm oil is extracted by cold pressing the "germ" of the wheat. The grain consists of three parts - the husk, the germ and the endosperm - and it is the germ that is used in the manufacture of the oil. Although the germ only constitutes 3% of the weight of a wheat grain, it contains nearly 25% of the protein, vitamins and minerals.

Wheatgerm oil is rich in Octacosanol, Vitamin E, A, and D. It also contains Vitamins B1, B2, B3, B6, F, Essential Fatty Acids, protein, and minerals. Essential Fatty Acids support physiological functions, and are essential for the health of our organs and overall health. They cannot be produced by our own bodies, and instead must be obtained from dietary sources. Wheat Germ Oil contains linoleic, oleic, palmitic, and stearic fatty acids. These are needed for our cardiovascular, immune, nervous, reproductive systems, and to maintain healthy cells and body functions. The Vitamin E Oil present in Wheat Germ Oil promotes skin cell formation, and is great for nourishing and rejuvenating, reducing scars, stretch marks, and damaged skin. It has anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant effects, which may be beneficial medicinally as well as in cosmetics. Specifically, Wheat Germ Oil has been shown to be effective for dry and cracked skin, eczema, psoriasis, prematurely aged skin, dull complexion, tired and overexerted muscles, sunburn and burns, poor blood circulation, improves lymph function and high cholesterol levels. It is also used to help relieve the symptoms of dermatitis, it helps to promote a smoother, younger looking skin. The oil is very high in essential fatty acids and because of its high vitamin E content, which is a natural antioxidant which helps to prevent rancidity, it is often added to other carrier oils to help lengthen their shelf life and to prevent them going off. Because the consistency is far too sticky and heavy to use on its own, it is suggested to mix it with another carrier oil. Using it for massage may be too heavy on its own, but with its great nourishing qualities, it is a good choice to include a small percentage when mixing a massage oil or preparing a carrier oil blend. Wheat Germ Oil is widely used as both a cosmetic ingredient and as a dietary supplement. Because of its anti-oxidant and regenerative properties, Wheat Germ Oil is a wonderful ingredient to add to bodycare and cosmetic products.
